About Olalla, WA
Olalla, WA, a serene slice of the Pacific Northwest, is steeped in natural beauty and local lore. Its name, derived from the Chinook Jargon word for "berry," hints at the lush blackberry brambles that grace the area. While its scenic views of Puget Sound captivate visitors, Olalla's history adds intrigue.
Founded by Scandinavian immigrants, Olalla was once a thriving locale, thanks to its prime location on the water. At the close of the 19th and early 20th century, the Olalla lagoon helped the timber, farming, and shipbuilding industries shape the Puget Sound and beyond. At one time, more than a dozen businesses stood near the bay, including a hotel, blacksmith, post office, shingle mill, and a store. When the Narrows Bridge was built, many of the buildings began to come down in Olalla.
Today, Olalla continues to celebrate its heritage and community spirit. The South Kitsap Southern Little League (SKSLL), located at 5795 SE Hovgaard Rd, Olalla, Washington 98359, is a testament to the area's commitment to youth sports and community engagement. SKSLL provides a platform for children to develop athletic skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship, fostering a sense of belonging and pride among local families. The league's dedication ensures that every child, regardless of background or ability, has the opportunity to participate and thrive.
For those interested in exploring Olalla's history further, the Olalla Bay Landing museum offers a glimpse into the past, featuring local memorabilia and artifacts that tell the story of the community's evolution.
